Wish upon a raindrop...

I wish I may, I wish I might.

Basically, I want two things: to go camping and to steal my daughter from school and take her on a full-fledged picnic, replete with a pretty picnic blanket, yummy chicken sandwiches, homemade cookies, potato chips, and a flask of a cold, sweet drink. I want to pack a frisbee, bubbles, sunscreen, and even a kite and just spend the afternoon revelling in a sunny afternoon. I want to stop on the way home for popsicles and return with newfound freckles on our cheeks and shake blades of grass from the picnic blanket.

Or maybe I want more
I also want to have a barbecue and actually eat outside, hear the sounds of my kids jumping into the pool, and hang clothes on the line to dry in the sun. I want to plant my window boxes and not worry about them growing mouldy from the never-ending damp. I want to have to put my air conditioner in my window and (finally) paint my porch floor. I want to wear flip-flops and put my jeans away in the back of my closet. I want to think that cooking a turkey is a ludicrous idea and eat my first (and probably only) hot dog of the season.

Because, have you ever had the feeling that you are trapped in a time warp where the days literally resemble one another and you are in a state of suspended motion where someone has hit the pause button on the change of seasons?  Where the picture outside your window never changes and that picture is grey and drizzly and, admittedly, a lush green but little else in the way of colour? While we are very, very fortunate that our weather complaints are mild (especially in light of others who have been faced with forceful and dangerous weather events), those of us who have endured a long, snowy Canadian winter are feeling the lack of energy and mood-lifting sun and vitamin D that normally comes with this time of year. For it has been over a month of cool/cold, dreary, uninspiring weather. I am literally craving the warmth of the sun and all the happy things that come with it.
And I will keep on wishing.

  2. Ohhh...it has been the same way here...cold and rainy and Spring bypassed us completely. Yesterday we woke up to 76º and today it is in the 90ºs...that never happens here. So..I understand your need to "break out". I hope you get some sun soon...and what intheheck is going on with this weather anyway? xo Diana

  3. Yes, I do hear you. We were in the same boat not so long ago. It is going to turn around soon. Oh that "more" in italics...hmmm...makes me wonder.

  4. I'm sorry the weather is still not nice there. It just turned around here in N.B., at least in central N.B., the past few days. I think Cindy Day is forecasting a bit of sun for you tomorrow. I hope you see it!

  9. Well, I'd gladly trade you for a couple of days (I'm sure I could be talked into longer). I'm in Texas and already dreading the heat that we will undoubtingly have for the next 3 or 4 months. I could absolutely go for some cold and rainy:)

  17. Hi. Saw your post on the BlogHer links under the ad on my blog. I don't know where you are, but here in Maryland it's been oppressively hot lately. Last night we had a wonderful thunderstorm that brought much rain and I swear, I can hear the trees sigh. The birds seem much happier, too.
I know how you feel when every day is the same and the rain and cold don't seem to end. Hoping for better weather for you - and all those things you want to do.
(when my children were young, we packed picnics all the time - traipsing through woods and across creeks until we found the perfect spot). Thanks for that little memory ~

  19. You are welcome to come visit me here in Texas.
We are in a horrible drought. Dry, brown, crunchy, tinder box. 100 degrees.
I'll trade you some of your rain for some of our sunshine. ;-)

  20. I understand the frustration. I lived on an island before moving to Virginia, and the months of winter really gets me down. I yearn for porch swings, walks in the park and lemonade.

Now I have it with a 95 degree weekend ahead. It's hot, but I love it. I'm sending sunshine your way!

  22. I cna't believe the weather we are having either. I think we've only had one day above 70 here in the pacific NW. I planted my basil two weeks ago, They finally appeared yesterday. Most years they are are up in 2-3 days.Thinking of driving south for some warmth.

  23. I am so feeling ya! Except I am sort of glad the weather got crappy - I had a major surgery in the end of may and am still not recovered due to complications - so selfishly, I am glad the beach weather is waiting for me to be able to drive my kids to the beach! :)

In the meantime I am planning a fun Popsicle party and bike parade (VISIT MY BLOG FOR THE POLKA DOT PARTY INSPIRATION POST AND ALL OF THE PARTY PRINTABLE S FOR FREE!!!!!) for next Wednesday night and looks like part cloudy and 80's .
