My big brush with celebrities occurred on Tuesday on Prince Edward Island where Regis and Kelly were on location filming their show. My amazing and generous brother-in-law, an important fellow at CTV in Toronto scored us tickets and I naturally took my celebrity seeking mum and gave the extra tickets to two friends who brought along their sisters. It was, in a word, a BLAST! Well-organized, exciting and the perfect way to spend a hot summer's day pretending you have no responsibilities in the real world...escapism at its best!
(Gelman)
(Regis and Kelly: her dress was by Stella McCartney and it was stunning!)
My mum has always wished to see a real live "star" and we joke that it is on her "bucket list." Well, she got her wish:
We saw ELEVEN!!
John Corbett (from Sex and the City and My Bog Fat Greek Wedding), Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna, Elisha Cuthbert (from 24 and who knows what else, but she has a hot hockey player boyfriend who was reportedly there but I missed seeing); Caroline Rhea (a comedian and very funny!); Bo Derek, who whizzed by us on a golf cart with John Corbett, her luvah; Ben Mulroney (he needs to ditch his creepy hair like his dad's) from e-Talk Canada; Regis; Kelly and their "side-kick" Gelman, who was looking kinda fine, I might add...who knew? Oh yeah, I almost forgot: I was thisclose to the lead singer of One Republic, Ryan Tedder, and they performed their hit song, All the Right Moves. It was sa-weet...!
And other band members (I won't pretend to know who they are...I'm a lead singer groupie):
How did we get so close? Well, because we couldn't bring ourselves to wait in the line-up for the next show (we had tickets),my mum and I acted like groupies and splayed ourselves against a back fence which, to our amazement, was the exact way the crew led the celebrities back to their trailers!
We didn't either.
In our new spot, the celebrities would drive by us on the golf carts and we would yell their name and I would get a dud photo of the back of them or (worse) a crew member, with my stupid camera like this:

(Kelly is the gorgeous blond with the perfectly tanned back. Her daughter was beside her)
Funny thing was, there were very few people who were clued into this location and we couldn't believe our luck!
Next up on the bucket list, apparently, is white water rafting. No matter that my mother cannot swim. I am so making one of my brothers take her on that adventure!
What's on your bucket list?!

What fun that must have been. I noticed they were in PEI and what a hoot that you actually got to go and see them. You and your mom and friend look like you were having a great time. Love the matching necklace you and your mom have.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day! And you got to see so many celebrities all in one day. Regis and Kelly would have been enough for me. Glad it was such fun...and thanks for the fun post. I enjoyed reading it!
ReplyDeleteI have a funny Kelly Ripa story. I saw her up close at the daytime emmy awards and she was with her husband Marc Consuelos. I asked Kelly if I could take a picture of them and she said she had a better idea - why don't I take a picture of you and Marc! So I have several pics of me and gorgeous Marc Consuelos. Kelly is so cool!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting, I love Regis and Kelly!
ReplyDeleteOh, this must have been wonderful! I watched the very show you were at! Prince Edward Island is so gorgeous! You lucky little dog, you! ;)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
So cool! I didn't know you were a fellow Canadian - awesome. Mmmm, in my bucket list is a road trip to the Grand Canyon!

That is a fun fun day! I have 2 celebrity stories, but only one is good.
ReplyDeleteI took students to the state capitol in Austin for a competition. We saw a group of about 10 people walking through the annex (where we were); at that point one young man was standing with me.
I told him I thought the mostly bald man was Robert Duvall. He looked at me blankly. I mentioned 5 or so films he had been in, including his first role as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird. He walked over to where they were standing, spoke to him, and shook his hand. He seemed unphased as he said it was indeed Robert Duvall.
Hours later when all the kids met back up, I told them that this young man had met Robert Duvall. They looked blankly, much as he had. THEN I mentioned that he had been in Apocalypse Now ("I love the smell of napalm in the morning. It smells like victory!")
The rest of the kids continued to look at me blankly, but the young man who met him started to freak out. Apocalypse Now was one of his FAVORITE movies and he couldn't believe he had shaken hands with THE Robert Duvall.
It was a great day (Duvall was there when they were planning the remake of The Alamo) for the two of us, at least.
Cheers,
Laura
Wow, how cool! I have always wanted to see Kelly and Regis! Even back when Kathie Lee was there, I loved her! Thats so neat that you were that close for pics too!
ReplyDeleteStephanie
great post, I was watching that last night on etalk...in between Mel Gibson/Lindsey Lohan scandals. haha
ReplyDeleteLinda, that does look like fun! I wonder if Kelly was sporting a real tan or her painted on one. I used to love watching that show, but have given it up along with all daytime tv for, what else, blogging pursuits. You and your mother certainly look like mother and daughter. Hope that she gets all her wishes to come true.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a lot of fun, Linda! My Mom sounds the same as yours. I took her in for a play about 10 years ago as a combo Mother's Day/Birthday present and she practically tore my arm off because she saw Diane Sawyer at intermission!
ReplyDeleteLooks and sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting...looks like a lot of fun. I would have enjoyed hearing One Republic.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun to have a brush with celebs!!! Hope you are having fun photographing your home. Can't wait to see it!!
ReplyDeleteFun! I love Kelly! I even lived in New York for a little while and I never went to the show. Oh, well.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun !!!! My hubby took me to Regis's night club show on my 21st bday - lol.... way long time ago !!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a wonderful time - thanks for sharing it with us !

How fun. I get so start struck....I would have been crazy.
ReplyDeleteLets see...... learning to surf, seeing the Aura Borealis and taking a trapeze class are tops on my list.
Regis and Kelly is one of my favorite artists. You are so fortunate that you have watched their performance live. I wish I was there to witness that very special event.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! The Canadian east coast is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSue
How fun!!!! I LOOOOVE Kelly Ripa! I didn't know about Bo Derek and John Corbett! WOW! I'm shocked!
ReplyDeleteWhat's on my bucket list? I always wanted to be an actress, but I'd settle for being an extra on a movie.
sounds like a great day out, i love the photos!
ReplyDeleteMEETING YOU! THAT is on my bucket list!
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific way to spend the day!! I was home from work one day last week and caught one of their Maritime shows... and I found myself wondering if any of our East Coast bloggers would get a chance to go. Excellent that you did!! In case you don't know... Alisha Cutherbert is a good Canadian girl and she got her start on that kids' program "Popular Mechanics for Kids" or PMK. My son loved the program and Alisha was fantastic in it! Google and you'll see a few clips ;-)
ReplyDeleteVictoria
SO much fun! Lucky Ducky! I love Regis and Kelly ... but I never get to watch them!! sniff... sob...sob! ha ha! =)

ReplyDeleteOh how the Hollywood web gets tangled at times!
You are so lucky to have gone even with the humidity. :-)
Oh, how fun!! I LOVE Regis and Kelly and I have watched every day for I-don't-even--know-how-long (Kathie Lee days). How completely delightful to attend a taping in such a GORGEOUS place! I really enjoyed seeing those shows.
