Well, here is my latest labour of love from the handyman...where all the "magic" happens, I like to joke! As you can see, I have been pretty quiet over here, but that's not to say the keys aren't tapping! Seems it can be difficult to come up with topics of interest when I rarely leave my new perch, and with the adjectives flying, I fear they will be in short supply for my first baby.
Okay.
This was a cost-effective solution to creating a fancy-pants work space from which to write. Indeed, I remain open to passers-by and pretend to tune out those who ask where their socks are when I am trying to write "in peace!" Using some left-over wood (and about $100 of new wood, I'm told), my husband braved the clutter of our garage and made me this little desk. You may recall I was having difficulty deciding upon a colour. Well, practicality reigned, and I decided to use the unopened can of paint that was hiding in my utility closet. It is a happy shade, and the price made the handyman even happier. I even found the pulls left-over from when we built our house so that was a savings, too. I will now be able to be more organized and keep all of my new writing projects straight.
(And I will fill you in on them just as soon as I'm allowed to...)
I searched high and low for a yellow chair or a stylish one I could paint yellow, but no luck. My dream chair would be an Eames chair, but for some reason they seem hard to come by in my tiny town. Go figure!
So, I picked up this white leather chair and although it is not my first choice, it is a very comfortable place to sit while working. Kind of like the sensible shoes option...not stand-out, but serviceable all the same.
I do have some fun fabric I might upholster it in (without damaging it!) just for a change/the summer, but we will see.
It seems I either decorate or write about decorating.
I never was good at chewing gum and skipping!

What a great job on the desk! Love it and love the color too! I think the chair works great!! And if you do decide to re-cover it, that would be great too. It's the perfect shape for recovering and all. Classic!
ReplyDeleteGreat workspace! The color is wonderful. The desk is beautiful - your husband is so talented to have created something like this.
ReplyDeleteVERY VERY nice!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the desk and love the color you went with, Linda! I like a lumbar pillow on the chair I sit at my desk on; maybe you will find your yellow in something like that.
ReplyDeleteLinda, it is beautiful!! I love the color and the pulls...in love! The chair is very pretty with it and looks comfy...I can't wait to see what fabric you would slipcover it in. I can see something with a little skirt and pleats. Your husband did a amazing job! Aren't we lucky girls to have such handy husbands! ;) Enjoy your new found spot!

ReplyDeleteThat desk is LOVELY! Your husband did an AMAZING job in creating that raised panel and beautifully "drawered" piece of ART! Wow. And thank you THANK YOU for painting it the same exact color as my office. Now I feel we are in sync. :) Enjoy your new station.

I think it's pretty, smart looking, practical and comfy. When you're going to sit at a desk for any period of time, cush under the tush is verrrry important.
ReplyDeleteYou spouse did a splendid job on the desk!
I LOOOOVE that desk!!! The lines, the color, the contrasting pop of orange on top with the desk accessories...love it all!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Stacey
I love the colour of your desk - so you. But the question is, where did you end up putting the desk, and does it actually stay that neat when you are working? Inquiring minds need to know...
ReplyDeleteYour hubby is no amateur! What a lovely desk he's created for you. How come that I didn't know that turqoise(?)/that color and orange goes so beautifully together? It looks fantastic. Now if you can just make yourself a helmet that tunes out the world...

ReplyDeleteOh MY it's just DARLING. I can't believe that while your at such a LOVELY desk someone would dare to ask you for matching socks?! (Socks are the bain of my existence. I. SWEAR.) Your husband did an awesome job and how cool that you had such a GREAT color already...lucky! Ikea, has some SWEET lumbar rolls in a zillion colors and patterns right now for 9.99!
