Bite Your Tongue!

During my semi-restful week off with my children, during which we mostly stayed close to home and enjoyed glorious spring-like weather, I took some time and read some brain candy.

One really stellar bit of knowledge-sharing I discovered, whilst engaged in this reading pursuit, was this comment from Gisele Bundchen (super-model, wife of Tom Brady, genetically blessed):

"I think a lot of people get pregnant and decide they can turn into garbage disposals. I was mindful about what I ate, and I gained only 30 pounds."

(can you say smugly annoying?)

I guess those who gain more are just slobs.

Because, come on, she must know what she is talking about, right? Kind of like this supermodel who is a furniture designer, apparently.

Lessons learned:

1. supermodels bring out the snark in me (can't imagine why?)
2. my time is much better spent reading real books and BLOGS
3. You can't blame the need to "lose a few" on birthing children who are now 9 years old.

What?

Who said that?

  1. I'm pretty sure that 30 pounds is the norm.
My dr. preferred I don't gain much more than 25.

  2. I agree with you! Those SM's also have personal trainers, cooks and agents who lean on them to be lean. Us regular folk just don't have those luxuries. I am happy just the way I am, baby fat and all - and my babies are over 20!

  4. Good for her. I hope her child never has a few extra pounds. She wouldn't want anyone calling it a garbage disposal.

  5. That is a bit snotty. I gained less than her with each of my four pregnancies, but I don't go bragging about it. And now that I'm in my 40's I have lbs I want to lose, but I never ate like a 'garbage disposal', I eat healthy/organic, small portions, exercise and still gained extra wt with age. But I remain happy even with the extra pudge.

  6. She sure can come off rude *however* it's true some women DO take their pregnancy as an excuse to overeat... ever read Milla Jovovich's take on it?

  7. I agree with you very smug...what ever will she do when age catches up to her?

  8. Lookee here, li'l miss, I'll have you know that I'm still using that line and my "baby" is over thirty! Gheesh. Never know what you'll get at this blog. ;>

  9. That just annoys me up and down. Ever person's body reacts differently to pregnancies whether you do or don't eat like a "garbage disposal". It burns me up when celebs make blanket rude statements like that.

  10. When are models going to learn NOT to brag about their diets/physiques to the rest of us?

It's like wealthy celebrities that get on their soapbox to the poor and middle class for not contributing more financially to disaster relief efforts or for not living a "green lifestyle." I mean really! Who is more likely to leave a larger carbon footprint on this earth than a rich Hollywood celeb!!

  11. When you're 20 feet tall, like most of them, you have a lot more room to expand and have it not be noticed!

  12. I won't say how much I gained with each pregnancy, but I promise...it was more than 30 pounds! I wish I had a personal chef, trainer and nanny to help out with after the baby is born...then I too might have already lost the baby weight I still carry from 5 years ago! lol ;) I am still working on it and maybe just one day...I will have succeeded. I agree...real women and real blogs, this is why I love blogging!

  13. I have always disliked her and now I am justified. Haha! Seriously, I ate whatever I craved and I gained 30 lbs too. So there.

  14. Lots of women do over eat and eat junk. She's right. I gained just under 20 and left the hospital weighing less than the day I got pregnant. Best thing EVER! I'm so glad I didn't give into cravings!!

  15. She's right. Some women do use pregnancy as an excuse to eat anything & everything. She's actually pretty down to earth. No nannies or chefs. Just her mother & sister to help out for a few weeks. She lives near here in Boston.

  16. I can't wait until she has her second baby and she starts showing the minute she gets pregnant. I'd like to see how much she gains with baby number 2. I ate really healthily too because I had gestational diabetes and still gained almost 40 pounds. That irks me!

  17. Can I blame it on children who are now 19 yrs old? After all they don't drive me to drink, they drive me to chocolate.

  19. All I hear is "blah, blah, blah" from the stars. If I had a chef, a trainer and a job that depended on my looks, I'd be mindful of every bit I took too!

  20. Obviously she doesn't know about baloney sandwiches on white bread with mayo. I haven't had one since the birth of my last child though...24 years ago. Cravings while pregnant need not be ignored!

  21. sometimes supermodels and other famous people say idiotic things and forget that they live in a fishbowl - everyone will know what they said. it just makes her look mean.

  22. Don't listen to her, nobody can tell anyone how to treat their bodies, especially supermodels because it's mostly photoshop anyways!

  23. I have to say that most mom's that I have met that are overweight blame their 'weight' on .."I'm a mom, I never lost the weight I gained".
    That drives me NUTS.
    I have 4 children.
I just don't understand how anyone can be overweight after they have a baby if they ate properly when they were pregnant.
I gained less weight with my second child ( 17 pounds).
By my 3rd child, I had to drink protein drinks 3 times a day to try and put on weight, becuse I got too thin trying to keep up with 3 small children.
Now with my 4th child, I weigh less than I did in high school.
    I don't get it.
People just need to learn to stop using pregnancy as an excuse to be overweight.
    Look at Americans.....
Most are waaaaaaaaay overweight and there is simply NO EXCUSE ....
    unless it's a medical condition.
But somehow I think it's choice....

  24. I too think 30lbs is recommended but really Tom? Why couldn't you have married me?

  25. Not to worry- I'm sure Obama & evil clan will soon tell us how much we are supposed to weigh and fine us for every pound overweight we are.

    REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER PEOPLE!

  26. when she has changed her child's diaper for over thirty years, spent 7 hours or so a day trying to get that child to eat food, spent hours sitting next to a bed in a pediatric ward and had to deal with doctors, teachers, and dentists for over thirty years, I will listen to her. Until then she should count her blessings and not judge.
