Welcome to our little house! We live in a back-split bunglaow/rancher which we built in the summer of 2006. It is the fifth house we built, and much of it was done by us. We don't shy away from DIY projects, which is a good thing since our budget doesn't allow us to hire out that which we can do ourselves.
I hope you enjoy the tour. It is always a work in progress as we think up new ways to improve and make the most of our living space, both inside and out.

ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful home! So bright and cheery! We live in a 1930's farmhouse that has so much charm, but someday I'd like to live somewhere brighter.

What a beautiful house you have, so many wonderful pics! x
ReplyDeleteWow! I am stunned. Soooo perfect. Just right for me.
ReplyDeletePlus your quote at the bottom of the page fits me to a T: 'If you haven't got all the things you want, be grateful for the things you don't have, that you don't want.'
I am currently living in a maze of clutter and want to get rid of a minimum 80% of 'things I don't want.' If only I had been satisfied with what I had years ago, I wouldn't be in this predicament now!
Thanks for inspiring me to clean up my act.
What a beautiful house. Such a fun blog--I added it to the "links I like" list on my own blog so that I can come back often. Thanks for your ideas!
ReplyDeletebeautiful house, lovely, but why do you have all your living room funiture hugging the walls...it would be so awesome if you pull it out and make conversations areas...cozier!
ReplyDeleteJust my opinion....you have a beautiful home
I like my house to be lived in, not "Doll House"and you need color...white is drab to me.
ReplyDeleteDrab?? OMWORD!! Your house is Far from drab in my opinion...I love the colors!! I want mine just like it! :)) Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteLinda....Gorgeous!!! Love it!!!

ReplyDeleteI love the white's and blues. I love your taste.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteEverytime I look at your beautiful home I am inspired to paint a room. I am planning on painting my bathroom Silver Sage. There is a house and store in the City where I live and as soon as I walked in I said to my daughter, I'm sure this paint color is 'Silver Sage', it was beautiful! Thanks for posting our beautiful pictures!
Bonnie
Comment to Anonymous..........you don't have to have dramatic colors on our walls to have a colorful house............you can always add color with acccessories etc. This house has beautiful colors i.e. soft blue and green tones which I'm sure look amazing during different times of the day. I love it!
ReplyDeletewhat a gorgeous home. LOVE the mantle, the reading nook and the play house.
ReplyDeletegreat blog...please come check out mine too http://onestylemile.blogspot.com/ . would you like to swap buttons?

Hello. I love your house and the things you and your husband have done to it yourselves. What is the paint color and brand in your living room. It is just lovely.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous,

Thanks for your comment! :)
Hi My name is Teresa and I´m from Portugal, and I love your home´s decoration...uaulike butterflies :D
ReplyDeleteSo well done!! Love the colour, it adds a very peaceful atmosphere. I'm sure the colour changes throughout the day as the light hits it. Lovely blog that I will love following!! Cheers, Susan
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! What are your tips on picking out colors. I recently just purchase a townhome, it's still being built, but once it is done... i am going to have to decorate and finish the inside. What are your suggestions. I will be buying everything new, when that time comes.
ReplyDeleteHEY! I LOVE your house!! I live in a big house.. But it feels really small inside. It is not as bright or cheerful and welcoming as yours (I have to say, we don't have natural light.) I love your blog and especially all the pictures you post. I shall try my best with your encouragement.
ReplyDeleteP.S: I'm a canadian living in the US. Its nice to find a canadian blog so interresting. keep up the great work !
Oh and what the color that you used in the master bedroom? I love gray, but a friend told me its gonna darken the room. It is not the case in your house.
ReplyDeleteI would love to paint my bedroom the same color.
thanks
Hello! Your home is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I have two questions for you:
ReplyDelete#1 did you use beadboard wallpaper on the fronts of your cabinet doors? #2 What is the name of the cabinet color? It's so awesome! I heard you tell one blogger that you used Restoration Hardware Silver sage in one of your rooms. I have the the RH silver sage bed and that color is amazing!
Thanks!
~Mrg
Ooopsie! ONe more question....where did you get the big letters (W E T) in laundry area from? HObby Lobby?

Hi Linda.
ReplyDeleteI have, for the first time, read the magazine Flea Market Style. You and your blog were featured in an article within the publication. I, too, loved the colour of Silver Sage seen in both the printed article and on your blog page. I understand the colour was developed by Restoration Hardware. Would you be able to tell me where I might purchase this line of paints?
You have a truly lovely home. And I thoroughly enjoyed my 'tour.'
Ta,
Leisa
What a happy home you have. It is enchanting. I want a little play house as a studio. It is adorable! How lucky Sophie is to have two talented and thoughtful parents.
ReplyDelete...Great pIctures and wonderful inspiration!...Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI would be interested in knowing all of your color choices. Would you let me know what the color is in your dining area? That is the one I'm particularly curious about. I'm having trouble with the color I chose for my kitchen... SW Rainwashed - gorgeous but not what I was going for, looks more like the one you chose for bathroom color. Thanks so much. I think you are darling!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely home. I am English living in a little village 35miles from London. Our house was built in 1715 but we are decorating using very similar colours... I particularly like the colour of your sitting (living) room.
ReplyDeleteYour home is gorgeous! Look forward to seeing the article in Holiday with Matthew Mead.
ReplyDelete~ Julie
Appears you have a lovely home. I like that you incorporated spats of light blue throughout. I love blue!
ReplyDeleteQuestion....where did you get your bread box and laundry box? I've been looking for those!
ReplyDeleteLovely home Linda! I adore the crisp white and the colors you've put together. I'm totally into that seafoam type aqua blue that I seen I think in your family room. Your master looks so relaxing and inviting too. Now the pool, that's what is sooooo cool! Not to mention Sophie's play house! Oh, I love the "WET" letters in the Laundry room! Very sweet, and I'm sure you all love it there! ~CC from catherinesteacups.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteHi Cheri,
ReplyDeleteThe bread box I found at a gift shop, but I have seen similar ones at HomeGoods. I bought the laundry tin at Restoration Hardware.
Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Linda
EEK! Just discovered you today and LUV your home. Fellow Canadian here.....I am in like with you already, we both have backsplits :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely home - so inspiring. Yvette
ReplyDeleteYour house is just beautiful! I love your bathroom. We are trying to come up with a floor plan for a master suite, and I am especially intrigued by your main bath's layout. Can you tell me, does the doorway across from the laundry area lead to your bedroom? A closet? And is the door next to the shower a linen closet?
ReplyDeleteGod Lord! that's a fantastic house you have in there! Where I live houses are not like that at all...I've always dreamt of having a house genuine American style, but I still have a great house! Too bad there are no money to renovate it faster, but it's OK. .. I really enjoy reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteGod bless,
Crista from Romania, Europe ;-)
nice post!
ReplyDeleteSo light, so clean!! Love, love, love the airy feel! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm Sara. I stumbled upon your blog, I really like your decorating style- very similar how I would eventually like to build my home up to. Your house is stunningly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOMG, I LOVE YOUR HOME! You have such great taste, great style, I have zero criticism except I'm JEALOUS!
ReplyDeleteLove the freestanding fireplace. Have been looking for a tasteful one for ages. Where did you get it from?
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne,
ReplyDeleteMy husband made our fireplace surround.
Cheers,
Linda

LOVE your home. Very clever use of color. Soothing, tranquil. ADORABLE!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your home!!! BEAUTIFUL!!! I am looking into remodeling my bathroom/kitchen/dining rooms. I have stained oak woodwork (my husband is a builder and he gets to decide on the wood! :)) and I am wondering if you think that silver sage would still look good with stained oak. I am thinking in the bathroom - its seems a little light on the card, but I love it on your walls (its looks beautiful with white woodwork.) ALSO, is your kitchen and living room both silver sage? IT looks so green near the fireplace.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your help! I love following your blog :)
Denise
hey Linda
ReplyDeletehere I am looking at your brilliant pictures
what a lovely home you have
Hi Denise,
ReplyDeleteI am not so sure how the color would look with oak trim as it is quite a cool colour and oak is a warm toned wood. I guess it would depend on what colour stain you have on the wood (darker would work better).
And yes, the paint is the same in my kitchen and living room, although the colour on the walls that have cabinets is simply an off-white.
Thanks for writing!
Cheers,
Linda
Love the bathroom with the yellow!!! <3
ReplyDeleteI love the paint color of your bathroom! Is that also RH Silver Sage? It looks more aqua to me. thanks!
ReplyDeleteYes; it is Silver Sage! :)
ReplyDeleteYour home is simply amazing!! Thanks for posting. You are creative.

ReplyDelete~Nicole

ReplyDeleteThe colour is Restoration Hardware's Silver Sage.
Cheers,
Linda
I simply love your house...that says it all
ReplyDeleteKarajeanne
Hi,
ReplyDeleteYour home is absolutely lovely!
The colours you have chosen suit me to a tee. So I'm going to be a pest and ask what all the colours are and who by. You've answered some but could you list them all.
I've just discovered your blog and so glad I have.
All the best,
Cathy

I'm enjoying the comments as much as your blog! The names of house styles vary from region to region, can you tell me what a "back-split" house is?
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteA back split means a one level home that sits on a dropped lot, allowing the basement to have a full sized door and windows to the backyard. They are sometimes also referred to as "walk-out basements."
Cheers,
Linda
Hello
ReplyDeleteI have just discovered your Blog through another blog (therubieplace.blogspot.com). Your home is beautiful, the colour scheme, kitchen, everything. I especially love your little girls cubby house. It's gorgeous.
Take care
Sarah
I just googled mudrooms and came across your blog...I am dying for cubbies in my laundry/mudroom and your pictures are perfect! Your house is simply a gem. About four years ago my husband and I built our dream home. After much soul searching, I came to the personal conclusion that bigger did not mean better. In fact, I miss my smaller, cozier home which was so much easier to take care of, heat, etc. Thank you for sharing the photos. One can see by looking at it that it is a home full of love.
ReplyDeleteI love the wallpaper in your bath. Where is it from?
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI got the wallpaper at Home Depot in Canada.
Cheers,
Linda
The vases in the living room with the spray are so beautiful. I love, love, love them!
ReplyDeleteLove your home...and the playhouse. Where did you purchase the adorable white, pierced window boxes. Adorable !!!
ReplyDeleteI've so enjoyed touring your home. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove the little pool house or is it a dressing room?
ReplyDeleteAmazing tour! I must get busy - PRONTO! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHello your home is so lovely, every part of it has its own uniqueness and that's why it looks so different on other houses. I also like yours Sophie's Playhouse it is so cute. It is very inspiring, I want to have a home like that. Thanks for sharing it with us.^_^
ReplyDeleteLove your kitchen - great style and cohesiveness! I wonder where you got your pendant above the sink - would you be so kind to share? Thanks, Jacob
