Robin's Egg Blue...

Robin's Egg Blue...my favourite colour, in all its intensities. I love the image it represents: pale, perfect blue eggs cradled in a nest made with love by mother Robin. It is the perfect metaphor for me. I, too, have built my nest with care, in a swath of watery blues, taupes, and greens...all combined to imbue a feeling of comfort. I love the element of nature this colour lends to an environment. It makes it difficult to feel very removed from the outdoors.

I love the speckled eggs, which add the tiniest bit of imperfection to the fragile hiding places of the soon-to-be baby birds. In fact, the sweet saying, "A little birdie told me..." immediately brings to mind a robin whispering in one's ear. The simple fact that such a delicately coloured egg comes from a brown and red bird puzzles me. The disconnect between the two affirms the notion that mother and child need not look alike to belong together. It is the perfect blending of all that is akin to nature, and it doesn't have to make sense. Nature just is, and it is the best source of inspiration when creating our own nests. Whether we draw inspiration from the ocean, the ground, the forests, or the flowers shooting forth from the grass... it is a great starting point for choosing colours and textures. But for me, it is as simple as a perfect little robin's egg...could a house be any more perfect than that??

when "trading spaces" first came on tv i can recall many times saying to my husband "don't ever EVER let anyone paint a room in my house any shade of blue!"
and now...i like it? how weird is that to do a complete 180? i don't love all blues...but i do love robin's egg blue.
i guess my signature color in 10 years will be purple because that is one i can't stand right now.

thanks for always giving me such sweet compliments about my pictures and family. it's so kind of you.

So soothing. One of my favorite colors too. It doesn't seem to fit into my color scheme as well as a more sky blue, but I'm always buying robins egg in my clothing, stationary, etc.. Love the photos you found!

There is no color more easy to live with , its addictive and cheerful and calming, I love it , I recently found a fabric that I used in my first house that I could only afford a couple of yards of the back ground is robin's egg blue, so were my kitchen walls in that house, I got a great deal on the fabric, and it still enbodies all that I love the colors the vintage feel the time worn look, jackpot, I have been living with these colors for 8 years now and I still love it all.
Great post .
I recently heard someone refer to this shade as the new blue??? new.

Hi, Linda, now these really get the spring fever going! Love this color, even though I've only got touches of it in my house, I can see why you love it so much.

Thanks for the well wishes on my new business venture. I'm excited about it & hope to do well with it. Glad you like the name too (wink, wink!). See, you were onto something.

What a lovely thoughtful, poetic post! Robin's egg blue is an adorable colour that figured prominently in my childhood. My mother seemed to buy me things in that colour, but I most remember a robin's nest ring from Avon, with three little blue eggs in the middle that I proudly wore to church and whatnot. I always seemed to associate with that colour...funny I have nothing that colour now!

Thanks for a very sweet post Linda!

Oh I LOVE that color. A close second to my favorite shade of pink...I am always attracted Robins Egg - for many of the same reasons as you - to it no matter what!

this is my very very very favorite color as well...

in a way i am a bit sad that it is becoming appreciated as soon that will progress to "popular," then to "trendy", then it will be everywhere and then it will become unbearable then it will be out of style then everyone will think it is hideous (think about avocado green and mauve!)

but wait!... if everyone else thinks it is hideous, then the thrift stores will be full of robin's-egg-blue things and they will be very cheap....

this could be a good thing after all;-)

you have a *wonderful* blog here m'dear

Gorgeous site - i love it! I'm also a huge fan of this pale blue-green version of robin's egg blue (rather than the super-saturated version). I found a robin's egg in my garden and matched the paint colors. If you're looking for a great match, I'd suggest: Benjamin Moore Antiguan Sky 2040-60 for the darker tone, and Spring Mint 2040-70 for the lighter tone. I have a photo of the egg on my blog too, if that's helpful.

Your blog is absolutely stunning. I LOVE all of your ideas and your style. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing a small small list (like 4) of your favorite "robin's egg blue" wall colors. I am searching for the perfect blue for my twin daughters' room and just can't put my finger on exactly the right one. I saw a picture of your daughter's room and several other pics you shared with blue walls....what colors are they?!! Thanks!
