Mmmm yellow...while I have certainly used it plenty when decorating my homes, I just can't seem to get it out of my system. In fact, I almost painted my kitchen cabinets a buttery shade of yellow before settling on the icy blue shade I now have.
photo: source unknownYellow is wonderfully fresh in all its shades: butter, lemon, wheat, daisy, from pale cream to a more vibrant sun shade- it brightens up a home by injecting an element of summer into it. Unless you really are misguided when selecting the right shade, it invariably succeeds in looking fresh, clean, natural...Pair it with soft or vibrant shades of blue, pink, white, greens, and more and you will undoubtedly have a cottage look that lifts your spirits when you open your front door.

photo source: unknownI got thinking about how yellow is the perfect shade to perk up your winter home, after seeing the latest Martha Stewart Living magazine at the grocery store. In fact, the way the colour seemed to leap off the cover boosted my spirits and inspired me to go rummaging through my linen closet for pillow cases and other bits and bobs to sprinkle some sunshine around my home. Even the whiteness of the season (via snow, of course) lends itself so well to a jolt of yellow(think eggs...sunny side up, or a tart slice of lemon meringue pie). In fact, let your favourite yellow food (at least aesthetically speaking) be your colour guide. Me, I'm partial to the custard yellows, the butter shades, and the occasional lemon drop to liven things up!! Oh, and I think I've changed my mind on my future kitchenaid mixer- that yellow one on Martha's cover is screaming my name...!!! All in good time, all in good time...

Thanks for all those wonderful photos.
Yellow is just one of those colours that makes you smile.

Thanks for the inspiration.
Oh my, those yellows look just like sunshine to me on this grey winter morning! I just painted my living room a soft yellow last fall and I just love the warmth and brightness, and it looks great with my red sofa! I may have to find some more places in my home to add a little yellow to:>)
Fabulous pictures...yellow is one of our very favorite colors....love those cabinets.

I have always loved yellow, it is just so perky!

Have I told you that I LOVE your new banner picture? That might be the most beautiful room I've ever seen.
I've had some rough experiences with yellow. I painted a bedroom yellow once; but it turned into this weird glowing greenish shade. Yuck. Then my kitchen was a really awful gold. But, I still love it in other people's houses. They all seem to know how to do it correctly! That soft buttery shade with white is just gorgeous! I tend to stick to sea-blues and reds, but that yellow magazine cover is tempting!
Isn't that yellow kitchen divine?! I just have to get working on my cabnets!! Blessings... POlly
I know what you mean about yellow. When we bought our house, I painted my kitchen 4 times trying to find that "perfect" yellow. I even took a little dress of my daughter's to the paint store for them to match. I finally gave up and painted the kitchen a cranberry color. Even though I like my red kitchen, I secretly still want to paint it pale yellow again. I love the look of a pale yellow kitchen, white cabinets and blue and white plates. Someday... As far as the yellow kitchenaid, go for it. I have the yellow one and I absolutely love it. It is the same yellow as the old LuRay pottery, the perfect butter yellow :0)
Oh yes! I love yellow! My whole house is some kind of yellow except my kitchen which is green which goes with yellow LOL! Love yellow and red together. The right yellow is hard to find though. Some are too green depending on the light and some can look beige.

ooozes spring. big sigh.
Hummm - yellow is not me, unless it is used to decorate fresh flowers!
we must be needing the same pick me up. yesterday, we painted our little girls room a buttery shade of yellow and a warm shade of pink seperated by a white lacquer chair rail. i was hesitant at first, but now i love it.
p.s. your blog is an inspiration to me
I can't believe this! Tomorrow I was going to post on the topic "yellow." LOL! I'll have to hold off on that one for a few weeks or months. It was all in connection with my dreamhouse...a topic that's been flying about in Blogdom for some time. Wouldn't you know that the recurring theme in my dreamhouse is yellow. Is it your favorite color?
Hi Vee!
Yellow is definitely one of my favourites...especially on the exterior. I am on my 5th yellow house...!!!

I have recently been drawn to yellow and have been considering it for our master bedroom or our main bathroom. I would love to know what your favorite shade of yellow paint is!
Might I add that this yellow pick me up was perfect on my gray cloudy winter day. Thank you for the continued inspiration.
I love yellow, alot the the walls in my house are painted yellow. I love to pair it with red, green and blue. I am just finishing a "project" that includes yellow, and will post on my blog in the next couple of days....

I am so not a yellow person , I think, I know it is because I was a yellow person for so long my first three homes ranged from soft buttery yellow to orangey bright yellow and even a straw color, I just can't go there, however I have a few things my lovely wicker chair , and a box I recently purchased, sso I suppose I am starting to open up to yellows again.
So cheerful, and definitely a great way to brighten up a home, especially during a gray winter. My home used to be a pale yellow and I really miss it. Thanks for sharing.
I love the color yellow! Our home is a tri-level and our lower level was painted a horrible peachy color that made the whole level seem so dark. We painted our family room a cheery yellow and it just made the room so much brighter and more inviting.
Lemons are a thrifty splurge for our grocery budget to bring the yellow into our house. It makes my kitchen so much more inviting and I always try to keep a basket of bright lemons and apples to bring in some color to our table.
Thank you for the inspiration!
