Well, as I've stated before, we have invested in a new camper. We are pretty excited and I love not only the convenience of it, but the smallness of it...I feel as though I'm "playing house" in it and love puttering around in it, organizing, nesting, making it a home away from home. My sister, Wendy, has teased me saying that she just knows I won't be able to leave it as is... meaning I'll end up "redecorating" it. Well, initially I was determined to prove her wrong. However, the nutbar in me can't stop fantasizing about lightening things up with some paint, slipcovering the cushions, changing the cabinet hardware, etc. Why, oh why, can I not just let things be??!!
Then say, very quickly, that I was thinking of giving the camper a lick of paint just to brighten it up; but not to worry, I wouldn't be involving him AT ALL!!! Well, it went better than I thought. He did exclaim, "Linda, I wish you'd just leave it alone. Why do you have to do anything to a new camper??" He didn't, however, out and out put his foot down. Now before you think that I am a wimpy wife who lets her husband command over her, I'm not. But I have learned through the years that some battles are just not worth fighting and he has as well. We are both strong-minded people and we usually know just how far we can go on certain topics. So, inspired by his lack of fighting spirit on this matter, I continue to plan my renovation!!
2.Slip cover the cushion in a sunbrella fabric (for durability and ease of cleaning) so I can hide the ugliness of this fabric:
3. I will leave the flooring alone, as hubby would pop a blood vessel if I suggested otherwise. However, when the day comes when it becomes damaged in some way, I will replace it with vinyl that looks like hardwood (did you know they make it with ridges that look like the wood joints?...really nice, for vinyl). ***See above photo with white cabinets***
4. I'm extra excited about what I'm planning for the fridge. I purchased one of those fake tin panel (in cream) to apply to the front of the mini-fridge. It will give it some character and be one less thing to paint. Also, I picked up some super thick wallpaper that looks like beadboard which I may use on the wood bases for the sofa area. It probably won't prove to be too durable, but, again, it will be less to paint for now.
5.For the exterior, I purchased navy indoor/outdoor carpet to help keep the grass out, nice antique-bronze solar lights to help us find our way in the night, lots of enamelware accessories/canisters for inside the camper, and I will take down the not so pretty valances above the curtains. Whew, I really am crazy!! I always say, a simple mind is a great thing to have and even better to lose...
For those of you who are thinking, "Doesn't she have anything better to do with her time?" I have this defence: I'll wait till the kids go back to school, and I have to have something new to blog about , don't I? Who knows, maybe I'll inspire those of you with campers to start decorating. It's always helpful to be inspirational, isn't it?? I'm always thinking of you...

Yeah , I am happy to see your camper, my mother in law has a similar camper, much older however, now this is a woman who covets wood, until I came a long, I concinved her to paint her dining room talbe cream and now she is a great make over artist, apparently her latest project was painting said camper, in white, I will have to take a look when I visit this weekend.
Hi Chris,
Will you take a picture for me? I'd love to see how it turned out!
Linda
What fun and potential family memories. Doesn't get any better than that!
Enjoy!

Well, I must be crazy then too because part of the reason I really want a camper is so I can make it pretty and foofy. LOL
(However, my husband is totally on board with the idea. He thinks it would be fun.)
Linda,
Funny thing about the enamelware cannisters. I went to our LOCAL Christmas Tree Shop yesterday and saw the cutest birdfeeder made with an enamelware bowl hung by chains of "silverware". It made me think of you and it was only $5. Funny how you get to "know" your favorite bloggers. Have fun with the camper!

My husband fantisizes about buying a camper...but his fantasy has to do with one of those bank-account-breaking, estate-on-wheels, 5 miles per gallon, rolling down the road cubical type things.... ha ha!!
When he bought his boat though..I was thrilled to find towels that matched the interior color scheme perfectly...
Hi, Linda, I had to laugh at you redoing your camper...in great detail! Reminds me when my sister & her hubby got a 5th wheel thing & she decked that thing all out to the hilt with decor, bedding, fake trees, and all. So, your plan sounds familiar. You just want to personalize it, I know!
Hey, I love your new header...just beeeutiful!!

Oh, I have had a good laugh tonight after reading this post! Mr. Jones recently bought a 20-year old camper for a "great deal." So on our first camping trip, I am laying in bed dreaming of how I will fix the ugly 80s-ness of it all. I wanted to paint the shiny-fake-oak white, but there is *so* much of it, I am not sure if I can pull it off without popping one of *his* blood vessels. Slipcovers are in the near future for sure. And don't even get me started on the flooring. :-0
And why is it that fabrics for campers are still gross? Is there no camper manufacturer who has good taste?
One more thing ... please post pictures of the remodel? Thanks!
Oh how fun! My husband has said he wants a pop up camper. I've been pretty cold to it until lately. Your post helps my attitude even more!
My folks gave us one of these pop up campers last year. Older than yours, but probably the same manufacturer. I'm a long way from finding time to decorate it but I'm glad you gave me the idea. It hadn't even occurred to me. I hope in the next few years we'll have more opportunities to use it and then I might enjoy it more if I did something to make it my own.
do you have any new pics of the renovated camper? I am working on ours right now and need some inspiration!
J :)
Oh my goodness! My husband and I just bought a 2000 32 foot travel trailer and it is very clean but my goodness I call the look "country kitchen"...off I went for more modern clean looks and even a brand new 2009 travel trailer is decorated the same with busy fabrics and wallpaper borders and fluffy curtains and valances of course with the old oak look....what is wrong with this picture? I would love to send you some pics of it to see what in the world I can do. I started by "cleaning the palate" and removed all the frilly curtains and even got rid of the wallpaper border (still working on the sticky residue)....Anytime we ever get anything new or used there is always some sort of modification needed in my life...can't they just make it like it should be ;)
Just curious if you have updated photos of the camper that you were decorating. I am doing one now and love your inspiration.
Thanks!
